Exchanging as a foreign business

Always remember to bring a completed form and documentation when you want to exhange banknotes that are invalid as legal tender.

If you want to exchange banknotes, always bring the following with you:

  • Proof of your identity, i.e. valid photo ID (passport, official national ID card from EU countries or Nordic driver’s license).
  • Official proof of your permanent address.
  • Proof that you can act on behalf of the company:
    a) You are mentioned in a register as a beneficial owner, mem-ber of the management board or other.
    b) You may bring an authorisation document that authorises you to act on behalf of the company.
  • Documentation that the account you want the money transferred to belongs to the company.
  • A submission form filled out and completed digitally. Click the link be-low, fill in and print the form.

For amounts over DKK 20,000, you must bring physical documentation proving the origin of the company’s cash. The documentation must be approved at the cash register. Please note that you may be asked for documentation regardless of the amount.

In addition, for amounts over DKK 50,000, you must – before you show up – send a number of documents to nationalbanken@forexvaluta.dk. Only when the documentation has been approved by FOREX will you be notified that you can visit the deposit location. You must submit:

  • The completed deposit form
  • Documentation of the origin of the company’s cash
  • Documentation that the account you want the money transferred to belongs to the company.

Fill out and print the form

How to get the exchanged money

Companies will have the amount transferred to their bank account.

Danmarks Nationalbank and FOREX do not charge a fee for exchanging the banknotes that will become invalid.

If the money is to be transferred to your bank account, Danmarks Nationalbank will pay the amount 1 to 1 in Danish kroner without charging a fee. However, be aware that in some cases your local bank may charge a fee for receiving the money, which is not covered by Danmarks Nationalbank. The amount received may therefore be minus any fees from your own bank.

When transferring to a foreign account, the amount will be converted to a currency other than Danish kroner, which may incur an exchange fee. The exchange fee is not covered by Danmarks Nationalbank.

Which banknotes can you exchange?

You can exchange banknotes that are invalid as legal tender after 31 May 2025. You cannot exchange other banknotes or coins. Click on the link in the box below to see all the notes that can be exchanged.
